Introduction to Home Canning

Product Description

This class is for anyone who is interested in learning about the age old tradition of canning and preserving. Canning is all about the freezing time and locking in great local seasonal flavors so that you can enjoy them throughout the year!

In this course students will gain an introduction to canning science, safety, equipment and processes. They will discover and learn about local farms and land in the area, and when certain produce is available in Washington.

Students will also learn basic vinegar based brine and how to combine brine with different flavors to create your own unique flavor combinations.

During the class we will be offering samples of Eat Local meals (equivalent to a full meal), and samples of Eat Local wines. After the class you will receive a 10% discount on all purchases made that day. Classes are limited to 15 participants.

This class will be taught by Chris Coburn, Chief Briner at Seattle Pickle Co. Chris was born in Seattle and grew up in the Queen Anne Hill neighborhood. He got his first introduction to canning and preserving when his family would venture out to pick your own farms in the Puget Sound region. They would bring this fresh picked produce home and preserve their harvest so that they could enjoy the local bounty year round. Chris started Seattle Pickle Co. to share this experience with the local growing population of Seattlites.

**This class is offered at our Queen Anne Store location.**
